A month later, we’re settled in our new home. Dominic called to let me know he has an errand to run on his way home and will be late. After I feed and bathe Logan, I read him four books before he’s ready to fall asleep. I tuck him in and promise his dad will come in later to kiss him goodnight.

I’m sitting on our new black, leather sectional, flipping through the channels when I hear the garage door. My heart still races at the thought of seeing my husband after he’s been working all day long. His heavy footsteps move across the tile floor, and I look up and gasp. “What in the world?” Dominic is standing in the doorway holding a wiggling ball of fur.

“I bought Logan a surprise.” My eyes narrow as he holds up the adorable black and tan puppy.

“I can’t believe you didn’t talk to me first.” I take a deep breath to calm myself before I lose control. I don’t want my husband sporting a black eye in our new home photos, too.

Shaking my head, I walk over to pet the little German Shepherd. “It’s a good thing I love you so much.” When the puppy leans over and licks my hand, I can’t help but fall in love. Since he grew up in foster homes, Dominic never had any pets, and we’d been talking about getting one for Logan. My impatient husband just jumped the gun a little.

Between my young son and busy husband, I don’t have a free moment, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. Turning Mr. Wrong into my Mr. Right was the best thing I ever did. Even if it means he’s going to keep me on my toes for the rest of our lives. We spend the next few hours settling our newest family member before dropping into bed exhausted. Tomorrow is another day for Dominic to surprise me.
